Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Multiparametric model evaluated by internal five-fold cross-validation (628 hands)

About the Predictive Models

Model 1: exploratory ultrasound comparator

Model based solely on ultrasound parameters: luno-triquetral CSA (CSA LT), trapezo-hamatum CSA (CSA TH) and inter-apophyseal distance at the trapezium–hamate level (IAD TH).

Accuracy: 92.03% ± 2.44% Internal five-fold cross-validation

Model 2: primary multiparametric model

Model combining ultrasound parameters, BMI and age. Its result is used for the indicative interpretation displayed by the calculator. Best mean performance observed in internal five-fold cross-validation.

AUC: 0.9799 Accuracy: 94.11% ± 1.08% Internal five-fold cross-validation

Model 3: exploratory comparator with ratio

Model using the CSA LT/CSA TH ratio, IAD TH, BMI and age. The ratio is presented without a standalone diagnostic threshold.

Accuracy: 92.67% ± 2.12% Internal five-fold cross-validation

Data and evaluation: The analyses cover 628 hands: 80 control hands and 548 CTS (carpal tunnel syndrome) hands, as part of the orthopaedic surgery thesis of Dr. Edouard KUNEGEL, 2025. The reported evaluation is an internal validation by five-fold cross-validation, not an independent external validation.

The displayed classification performance is not a guarantee of accuracy for each individual. This research tool does not, by itself, provide a diagnosis or a treatment indication.

⚪ Incomplete
Cross-sectional area at the luno-triquetral level
Cross-sectional area at the trapezo-hamatum level
Ultrasound measurement at the trapezium–hamate level, between the trapezium and hamate bony landmarks. Enter in centimetres: 2.33 cm equals 23.3 mm.

Section B - Demographic Factors

⚪ Incomplete
Patient's age
Body Mass Index

Research tool intended for healthcare professionals. Internal validation is neither external validation nor a demonstration of clinical utility. The displayed probability is not presented as a calibrated individual risk in the general population. It neither confirms nor rules out the diagnosis on its own and does not replace symptoms, clinical examination and relevant complementary tests.

The displayed categories are indicative and must not, on their own, determine urgency, a treatment decision or a clinical referral.
